Do you find yourself fascinated by the leaf, feather, or stone that others pass by in their pursuit of the grand vista?  There are infinite worlds within a drop of water, a crystal or a rusting car if you take a moment to explore the world up close.

Description: During this week we will photograph the exotic flowers of Hawaii, and explore the intense colors and textures that nature lavishes upon the tropical and volcanic landscape of this island.

Activities: Through lectures, demos, and hands-on field work, you will learn to master the tools that allow us entry into the infinite worlds of macro and abstract photography.  Critiques will focus on deepening your awareness of light and composition.  You will also learn creative Photoshop techniques for refining the raw material of your image capture into a finished picture that expresses your own unique vision.

Who should attend: This is a workshop for intermediate and advanced photographers who are comfortable with the manual exposure operation of their camera.

Instructors:

Ken and Mary Goodrich – co-founders of Hawaii Photo Retreat

Mary and Ken Goodrich have both been photographers for over 20 years.

Their photographic area of expertise has been primarily landscape and nature photography using natural light.  Their work has been shown internationally and has won numerous awards.

Mary's work has been shown nationally and internationally in galleries and museums.  The focus of her work has been the nude, the landscape and botanical studies.  She works both with digital and film and many of her silver prints are handcolored.   Most of her photographic education has come from workshops and a continuing, profound exploration of the arts. Whether her final expression is in black and white, a color transparency, a hand colored silver print, or a 3 projector multi-image slideshow, Mary’s hallmark is flawless, intuitive composition.

Ken has embraced digital photography and studied with masters Bill Atkinson and Charles Cramer.  His work shows power and drama in both black and white and color. He shoots macro, nature images, abstractions and figure studies. He often integrates his images into projected multi-media presentations with music.
