Description: Holly’s workshop has been aptly described as a bridge to intuition. By understanding how different media work together, each student will be able to understand what process works best in finding his/her own creative voice. We will cover transfers, gluing techniques, compatibility of media, and how to work with acrylic paints. Materials will include but not be limited to: paint, photographic imagery, found objects, organic material, cloth and three-dimensional objects…anything that will hold paint.
Home base for our workshop is the Mahalo Hawaiian Retreat near Volcano Village on the Island of Hawaii. The Retreat has 3 beautiful homes and a large natural light studio on 10 secluded acres in the ancient upland rainforest. Lodging and gourmet meals are included in the package price. Click here to see the retreat facilities.
Activities: Lectures, slide presentations, demonstrations. Each day a different kind of construction/collage will be assigned, so that students will be constantly working on their next collage and finishing it with paint. The structures will be either 2- or 3-dimensional, depending on the assignment, and different ways of adhering collage material will be explored.
Who should attend: This workshop is appropriate for both beginners and advanced students. For those who have taken Holly's weekend workshops, this workshop will expand on techniques previously taught. Holly will also expect previous students to work directly with her to solve problems they have encountered.
Instructor: Holly Roberts is well known for her complex and powerful imagery created by using photographs as a base.
