Description: This course is designed to guide you on a path to find inspiration, new techniques and concepts and use the camera as a tool for capturing the extraordinary.  The art of classic, contemporary and figurative portraiture, scenics, pictorials will be covered with lectures, demonstrations and photographic assignments.

Activities: You will be guided through a full cycle of styles and trends of portraiture from paintings by the “Old Masters” to the contemporary magazine illustrations of today, and learn to appreciate the influence and inspiration of our heritage.  You will learn to see and use light (regardless of the source) to create a diversity of portrait styles from traditional to fine art.  Learn to let your intuition guide you, and to live life fully, deeply, and joyfully…this opens the door to being an artist with the camera.

Who should attend:   This is a workshop for all level of photographers.  Beginners will be given a wealth of information and guide lines to develop confidence and originality as a portrait photographer, and the more advanced photographer will discover a unique way of approaching portraiture.  Exploring portraiture as fine art will be beneficial to any photographer interested in this elusive subject. 

Instructor:  Joyce Wilson has been a photographer for over 45 years, and has been teaching workshops throughout the world since l970.  A studio in Indianapolis, IN served as base until l996 when she moved to Santa Barbara, CA, and accepted a faculty position at Brooks Institute.  She left this position in 2006 to concentrate on her personal work, and a few select clients.  Her work is represented through art galleries, featured in solo and group exhibitions, and is part of the permanent collection at the International Photography Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
